BEAUMONT
RELIEF IN NEED CHARITY
History
Our History
Background
The charity, known as Lord Beaumont Hospital and School was founded by the will of Thomas Beaumont, the third and last Viscount Beaumont of Swords in 1701.
A Charity Commission Order dated 7th February 1911 separates out the school and school house to form the Beaumont Educational Foundation and renames the almshouse as the Beaumont Hospital. The beneficiaries of the latter were six widows of the parish.
The almshouse was sold in the 1970s and the proceeds were successfully invested by the Charity.
The Charity Commission Scheme dated 13th of July 1983 stated that the Charity shall be administered under the title Beaumont Relief in Need Charity. The 1983 Scheme also confirmed that a beneficiary could be any woman of the Parish of Coleorton in conditions of need, hardship or distress.
Following a period of inactivity from 2013 to 2016 the new Board of Trustees was appointed and the administration of the charity was updated.

Todays governing document is the 1983 Scheme amended by a March 2020 Resolution that extends the target community for the application of funds to any person of, in or near the Parish of Coleorton in conditions of need, hardship or distress.
